Family trip to Mt. St. Helens

This is at the Mt. St. Helens visitor center, five miles on the highway that leads the the volcano. Lots of information presented there, especially about the 1981 eruption. This photo is of Silver Lake near there where you can see a lot of wildlife, especially in the spring. The first good view of the mountain along the highway. In the middle ground is the extent of the mudflow that resulted from the '81 eruption. Getting closer now. I think this is the forestry center. More of the mudflow. Even closer and more to the North. This is at the Coldwater Ridge Observatory. Here you can see the lava cone at the center of the volcano. And yes, that is steam rising from the mountain. This is the end of the highway, the Johnson Ridge Observatory. These trees were torn down by the 1981 eruption. This is a more northerly view of the mountain and much closer. You can see the lava cone here. Here you can see what was a popular tourist spot before the eruption. The eruption drastically changed the lake. This is Mt. Rainier. Mt. Rainier again.
